Distance Reiki Basics

Understanding the practice
before you begin.

What is distance Reiki?
Distance Reiki is the same lineage-rooted Usui Reiki practice offered through intentional energetic connection rather than physical proximity. The practitioner opens the channel, sets intention, and directs healing energy to the recipient wherever they are in the world. It is not a workaround, distance healing has been part of Reiki tradition since Usui himself.
Does distance Reiki actually work?
Yes. Many clients report warmth, emotional release, stillness, clarity, and a distinctly deeper calm after virtual sessions. For a significant number of people, receiving from their own home creates more nervous system safety and deeper surrender than leaving for an appointment.
Is virtual Reiki as effective as in-person?
For most people, yes. The energetic practice is identical. What changes is the environment, and being in a familiar, trusted space often allows the body to open more fully than it would in a treatment room with a relative stranger present.
Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work?
No. Skepticism is welcome and common among first-time clients. The body responds to energy independently of what the mind has decided to believe about it. Curiosity is enough to begin.
Can I receive distance Reiki from outside the United States?
Yes. Simply Reiki Healing works with clients internationally. Virtual sessions are available in all timezones and we schedule accordingly.
Before Your Session

How to prepare
so you can fully receive.

What do I need for a virtual Reiki session?
A quiet enough room, a comfortable place to lie down or recline fully, and privacy for the duration of the session. Water nearby, a blanket, and a few minutes of transitional space before and after can help. Nothing elaborate is required.
Do I need to be on video the whole time?
Not necessarily. Some sessions include a brief video opening or debrief. But the healing work itself does not require you to be visually connected throughout. Most clients prefer to simply rest with eyes closed.
How should I prepare emotionally?
You do not need to be in the right mood or arrive feeling ready. Tired, uncertain, guarded, and overwhelmed are all valid starting points. The point is not to arrive polished. The point is to arrive willing.
Do I need previous Reiki experience?
No. Many people come to their first Reiki session with Simply Reiki and have never received energy work before. There is no prerequisite knowledge or spiritual framework required.
During the Session

What happens and
what to expect.

What does a virtual Reiki session feel like?
It varies considerably by person. Common experiences include warmth or tingling in specific areas of the body, emotional release, a deep heaviness or calm, involuntary muscle relaxation, vivid imagery, or nothing dramatic at all during the session itself, followed by noticeably better rest, calmer internal state, and more mental clarity in the hours or days that follow.
What if I fall asleep?
That is completely fine and quite common. Falling asleep often signals that the body felt safe enough to fully let go. The session continues. The work does not require your conscious awareness.
What if I don't feel much?
A subtle session is not an ineffective one. Many people notice the most significant changes afterward, in their sleep quality, nervous system baseline, or emotional clarity. The body receives at its own pace. Not every session announces itself loudly.
Will I be expected to talk during the session?
Not during the main healing work. Some sessions include a brief opening check-in and a closing debrief. The session itself is for resting and receiving, not processing or talking.
After the Session

Integration and
what comes next.

What should I do after a session?
Give yourself time. The session does not fully end when the call does, the energetic shifts continue landing in the hours that follow. Rest if you can. Drink water. Avoid rushing back into high-demand activity immediately after.
How soon will I feel results?
Some people notice shifts during the session. Many notice them in the 24 to 72 hours afterward. Some effects are cumulative across multiple sessions. There is no single timeline that applies to everyone.
How many sessions do I need?
A single session can be meaningful and sufficient for some people. For ongoing nervous system support, deeper pattern work, or navigating significant life transitions, regular sessions tend to build meaningfully on each other. We can discuss what makes sense for where you are.
Fit, Safety, and Practical Questions

Whether this is
right for you.

Is Reiki safe?
Yes. Reiki is non-invasive, gentle, and does not involve any physical manipulation. It can be received alongside medical treatment, therapy, and other care without conflict. If you have a specific health situation you want to discuss before booking, reach out.
Can Reiki replace medical or therapeutic care?
No, and we would not suggest that it should. Reiki is a complementary practice. It works well alongside medical care, therapy, and other healing approaches. It is not a substitute for professional medical or mental health treatment.
How do I know which session is right for me?
If you are unsure, reach out before booking. We are happy to have a brief conversation about what you are moving through and what form of support might serve you best. There is no pressure to book before you feel clear.
What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
Please reschedule at least 24 hours before your session when possible. Life happens and we understand, reach out directly if something comes up and we will work with you.

Still have a question? If something specific is keeping you from taking the next step, reach out directly. A real question deserves a real answer, not more marketing language.
