The Simple Answer

Energy healing rooted in
a 100-year-old Japanese lineage.

Reiki is an energy healing practice developed in Japan in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui. The word comes from two Japanese concepts: Rei (universal, divine) and Ki (life force energy). Together, they point to a practice rooted in the understanding that the body is not just physical, it is energetic, and that working with that energy intentionally can support healing.

A trained and attuned Reiki practitioner channels life force energy through focused intention, supporting the body in releasing what it no longer needs, restoring flow where it has become blocked, and creating conditions for the nervous system to settle and begin its own healing work.

You do not need to believe anything specific for Reiki to be supportive. The body responds to energy regardless of whether the mind has finished deciding what to make of it.

Key Principles

What Reiki is, and what it is not.

What It Is

A lineage-held energetic practice

Passed through an unbroken chain of teachers and students from Usui to the present day. Simply Reiki holds 5th generation Usui lineage, continuous, trained, and reverently held.

What It Is Not

Not a religion or belief system

Reiki has no doctrine, no required theology, and no spiritual prerequisites. People of all faith backgrounds and no faith background receive it and find it supportive.

What It Is

Complementary, not substitutive

Reiki works alongside medical care, therapy, and other healing approaches. It supports those processes, it does not replace them.

What It Is Not

Not dependent on performance

You are not asked to respond in a particular way, feel something specific, or confirm an experience. What arises in a session is what arises. That is always enough.

What Happens in a Session

Rest. Receive.
Let the body respond.

In a session, in-person or virtual, the practitioner opens the channel, sets intention, and holds the work. Your role as a client is simply to arrive and rest. You do not need to visualize anything, believe anything, or consciously process anything during the session.

What people commonly experience includes warmth or tingling in specific areas of the body, a deep calm or heaviness moving toward sleep, emotional release that arrives without a clear story attached, or, in many cases, very little during the session itself, followed by noticeably better sleep, calmer internal state, and clearer thinking in the hours and days that follow.

All of these responses are normal. None of them is the wrong one. The body receives at its own pace and in its own way.

The Lineage Behind This Practice

Not a trend. A living tradition.

Reiki is not a wellness trend or a certification weekend. It is a practice with a 100-year lineage, transmitted teacher to student in an unbroken chain from Mikao Usui in Japan to practitioners around the world today. Victoria (Tori) Adekoya holds 5th generation Usui lineage, meaning her teacher's teacher's teacher's teacher trained directly with Usui's original students. That continuity is not incidental. It is the foundation of what is offered here.
